Frank Lampard is professional enough to ignore the Anthony Gordon transfer brouha, swirling around his club and hopefully impress on his squad the need to focus on Fleetwood Town.
Everton has yet to have their name inscribed on the League Cup, with losses in two finals the closest. This season’s competition might be Everton’s best chance to win a trophy for the first time since 1995.
Lampard knows the value of getting to a cup final and winning a trophy, especially to a club with such a proud history like Everton.
Fleetwood Town is in the lower half of League One (old third division,) and didn’t exist when Everton last won a trophy (1995 FA Cup.)
On paper, it should be an easy win for Everton, but there’s a reason matches aren’t played on paper, besides the fact, it’s too thin to play football on. This is the kind of match as Blues' supporters know could easily turn into a nightmare. Especially for a squad that lacks a cutting edge. It might a chance for under-21 striker Tom Cannon, who seems to have little trouble finding the back of the net. The English-born/Irish striker just signed a new five year deal and tonight might be the perfect opportunity to show what he can do. Given the crossing ability in the squad, Cannon might prosper.
My thoughts: This is going to be Everton’s first victory of the season, it has to be. Preferably by a comfortable margin, I predict it will be 3-1 Everton, not dominant but comfortable enough. Please comment, subscribe and share.
