There’s a big No. 9 sized hole in Everton’s lineup. All of sudden, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has become injury prone.
Many supporters have complained about the young strikers being sent out on loan or still playing in the under-21s. I’m not privy to see what Frank Lampard and his staff see at training and considering what he’s done with Alex Iwobi and others. I tend to trust his judgement.
“Super Frankie” is rapidly becoming another “Cockney Scouser” like Andy King, a born goal-scorer, which is what is needed now.
Pretty sure “Blue Bill” tells Lampard, find a striker and we’ll give you the money. Sorry, but that smacks of the “We’ve had good times,” nonsense, Bill Kenwright is prone to along with “I’m a massive Blue, I stood in the boys’ pen.” So did thousands of others, does that make them suitable to be the Chairman of EFC?
It might be libel, but like many I believe Kenwright twists the truth. He is a showman after all.
So, when Lampard goes to the board, he may well hear, “Oh, that’s too much to pay for X,” just hang on until DCL comes back.”
So, it may well be shopping in the football-equivalent of Poundland for Everton. Now, sometimes you find items like a Jamie Vardy, but not often.
Everton survived relegation last year, barely.
The Liverpool Echo staff doesn’t seem interested in really questioning Kenwright and the board. They probably like their comfy press box seats and the free food and drink that flows in most press boxes. I spent 30 years of my life in press boxes and know what goes on. It can be very seductive.
So with the transfer window coming to a close, will Everton see a new striker come in?
It’s not up to Frank, it’s up to the board.
