It seems to be one thing after another for Everton. Less than a week after majority owner Farhad Moshiri sent a letter apologizing for the mistakes made in his tenure.
Then a report in The Telegraph claimed,
A consortium fronted by former Manchester United and Chelsea Chairman Peter Kenyon is in the early stages of discussing the buyout of Everton.
In addition to Kenyon, the group includes the chief executive of Minneapolis-based Talon Real Estate, Maciek Kaminski, and American businessman John Thornton. The consortium is believed to be taking advice from US law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges along with investment specialist Michael Klein.
It is claimed they are being advised by investment specialist, Michael Klein, along with law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges.
The price could well be as high as £1 billion, which would include covering the club’s debt. Given Everton’s well-known financial issues the group wants assurances there won’t be fines or points deductions involved. Everton has frequently claimed the club is in constant contact with the Premier League and doesn’t think it will suffer any penalties for over-spending, etc.
The Daily Mirror believes there are other groups interested in buying the club, but the Kenyon-led gang are the most advanced of the four.
The Everton hierarchy have remained silent and no smoke of any colour has emerged from Finch Farm or the club’s headquarters in the iconic Liver building.
And while Everton has distanced itself from Moshiri’s long-time friend and business partner Alisher Usmanov, suspending all the sponsorships from his companies. Usmanov is appealing his sanctions from the EU and a decision is expected soon, according to The Guardian
It would be expected his UK sanctions would be lifted soon, but to be honest, who knows what this Tory government will do next. If sanctions are listed, it could well make a big difference for Moshiri.
However, the presence of Thornton would provoke anger among Everton supporters, who like most Scousers are left-wing enough to wear the No. 11 proudly. Thornton has ties to Donald Trump and his acolyte Steve Bannon. Thornton advised Trump throughout Trump’s four-year international trade war. Bannon has said he sees Thornton as a mentor, the two men met while both working at Goldman-Sachs. Thornton is familiar with the UK, having gone to Oxford and qualifying as a lawyer and serving as president of Goldman-Sachs’ London operations.
Another potential point of opposition to Thornton is he has ties to Nigel Farage, which along with ties to Trump would make him anathema to the majority of the City of Liverpool, let alone Everton fans. The thought of the Orange One in the owners’ box at Bramley-Moore is chilling, to say the least and could see the first complete walk-out in a Top-level football league game in English and possibly world history.
Well, I hate making mistakes they happen. And since Thornton's ties with Trump are mentioned in the Liverpool Echo and that bastion of left-wing journalism The Telegraph. I don't understand your comment. I don't know when you left, but you know there is a statue of left-wing Labour MP Bessie Braddock at Lime Street Station. Why did you leave Merseyside? I'm really interested. I'm not being sarcastic. I lived in the US for a long-time, my father was a US serviceman, who loved Liverpool and my mother's family (her father was Liverpool Irish.) If you want to know, I had a 30-year-career in newspapers, including a major metro (San Antonio Light) which was closed by its owners as they bought the rival paper. Do you know why the Light was closed because it had unions. So I tend to be suspicious of US corporations. I have a number of other dealings with them, including a chemical company cited by the EPA form polluting the water of a bay know for oysters and bay shrimp. The companies' flack told me they only got in trouble because the chemicals in the discharge was illegal. I still shake my head. I was a member of the Newspaper Guild and am a member of the NUJ. I've lost a job in NC, because of campaigning for the Newspaper Guild and I was the sports editor. I write about Everton for fun. My actual job is communications work for the Breakthrough Party, which is new socialist group. Also Gov2UK, which among other things wants to bring proportional representation to the UK. Not that education matter, unless you use it. I do have a BA in history and a Masters in Communications (To be honest, Communications is a bit of a wank degree.) Anyway, hope you're not anywhere too hot. Heard it was 106 in Austin and San Antonio....
An article seeking to do no more than create division where no division exists. The author should be embarrassed at the pathetic attempt to link Trump to EFC.
